Chers membres d’Equateur Net,

Florence.njiriri@iucn.org).

Saludos cordiales,

Dear Equator Net Members,

The World Initiative for Sustainable Pastoralism (WISP) would like to conduct good practice studies in the following areas:

1. Pastoralist women’s empowerment/development or gender and pastoralism
2. Pastoralist rangelands improvement, rangelands management for sustainable development, improving primary productivity or reversing degradation
3. Financial service delivery to pastoralists, including banking, credit and insurance
4. Innovative approaches in pastoral marketing, including commodity based trade
5. Pastoralism and tourism

Each thematic area will be treated in one good practice study. Each good practice study should provide a global sweep of different experiences and good practice, based on case studies, success stories and literature review. The aim of these studies is to support advocacy and awareness of some of the options for sustainable pastoral development, which will be shared with policy makers and development/conservation practitioners. Outputs will include policy briefs and good practice manuals, with the option to publish the work in a peer reviewed journal.

At this stage WISP is looking for two things:

- Contributions from WISP-net members of their experiences and practices in these areas. All contributions that are adopted in the studies will be appropriately acknowledged in the final publications.
- Applications from consultants who wish to carry out one of the studies, including a 1 page proposal of how they would implement the study and the anticipated costs. Selected consultants will have a chance to discuss the proposal in much more detail after the selection process has been completed, but all studies will need to be completed in a period of no more than 3 months.

How to participate?

All applications should be sent by email, with the title of the study in the subject bar, to Florence Njiriri at Florence.njiriri@iucn.org
Applications should be received by Friday October 26th.

Warm regards,

Gaby
