CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy (deadline: 13 November 2007)

Dear Equator Net Members,

Please take note of the following opportunity:

Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy
Call for Nominations 2008
Closing date for entries: 13 November 2007

The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking entries from inspirational and innovative local sustainable energy projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America to compete for a share of £160,000 in prize money. The awards highlight and reward exemplary projects and successful examples of sustainable energy use both in the UK and the developing world, aiming to persuade policy makers, funders and the wider public to recognise renewable energy and energy efficiency as a crucial tool for addressing the urgent global issues of climate change, pollution and energy supply as well as the social and economic needs of local communities across the globe. Applicants must have been consistently successful for at least one year with plans for further expansion, and must also be highly replicable to ensure maximum impact in the battle against climate change.

In 2008, there is £160,000 ($320,000) in prize money to be awarded (six international awards of £20,000 and an Energy Champion Award of £40,000).

Award winners are promoted in the global media and to practitioners and experts in the field as leading examples of sustainable energy in action at the local level. In this way Award winners receive international acclaim and recognition for their work.

The Awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in June 2008.
